Heidi Larson joined Stroudwater in 2018. A family physician with more than 20 years’ clinical experience, Heidi is passionate about leveraging the power of relationships to build strong primary care networks. Bringing entire practice teams together and helping to define shared values and goals, Heidi helps organizations establish a framework for constructing scalable and adaptable models for change. Whether independent or hospital-based, practices can use redesign techniques to create more capacity, improve profit margins, and prepare for success under value-based payment models.
Before joining Stroudwater Associates, Heidi spent 15 years in solo practice in Portland, Maine, where she served as a liaison between independent physicians and the Maine Health Physicians-Hospital Organization. In this role, she led teams of family doctors in establishing the first Patient-Centered Medical Homes for private practices in Maine. In 2014, Heidi accepted a position with Massachusetts General Hospital, helping to establish a primary care clinic on Nantucket, where she focused on a team-based approach to support the island’s immigrant population. While there, she assisted the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization in establishing a dashboard for quality reporting in the electronic health record.
Prior to joining Stroudwater, Heidi served as medical director for population health at Eastern Maine Medical Center. She partnered with Harvard Pilgrim to obtain grant funding that supported transitions of care for patients and families in an effort to reduce rates of hospital readmission for ambulatory-sensitive conditions. She also led efforts to adopt standardized protocols for meeting quality metrics and reducing clinical variation in the practices. Working with Beacon Health leadership, she founded an EMHS Advance Care Planning team, charged with educating providers on the use of the Conversation Starter Kit to help patients and families with advance-care planning, POLST completion and learning about the palliative care service line.
Heidi is a graduate of the University of Vermont College of Medicine and earned her Master’s in Business Administration at the Heller School for Social Policy at Brandeis University. She served five years as a captain in the US Army Medical Corps before completing her family medicine training at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.
